    Immersion dyeing refers to the process of colouring fabric in a dye bath - water, dye and the necessary chemicals. Used for garment, yardage and fiber dyeing—also includes the following...

   Batik...

    Hot wax is applied to the fabric with a tjanting tool or brush to preserve areas of colour. The fabric is then immersed for dyeing. This process is repeated to make layers of different colours.

   Tie Dye...

    This is a familiar bound resist technique. Fabric is tied tightly so that some areas and not coloured in the dye bath. The process may be repeated to build up layers of overlapping colours.

   Vat Dyeing...

    Used to dye indigo, the blue colour develops when the fabric is exposed to air.
