Surikomi Badger Hair Rounds...
Complete name is Surikomi Bake. Surikomi translates as "colour gradation", bake means a brush without a point. Round, with a flat end like a stencil brush. They are made of soft, densely packed badger hair set in a split bamboo handle. Absolutely delightful to look at! These brushes are used to achieve the bokashi (colour gradation blends) typical of the
Rőzome technique.

Hikizome "Background" Brushes...
These have to be seen to be believed. An exquisitely handmade very large brush. Flat, 7" wide wooden handles are inset with tons of densely packed badger fur. The smoothly curved bristles insure streak free backgrounds of solid or blended colour. They are brushed in a side to side "swimming motion" to naturally feather the dye onto the silk. An investment—yes! But built to last a lifetime.

Hot Wax Brushes...
This is a Ro Ketsu Fude—made especially to withstand hot wax temperatures. These brushes can accomplish an amazing variety of waxed effects—from the finest lines and dots to large bold strokes.
To keep your brush healthy and able to point follow these simple rules:

  • Do not plunge a new brush into very hot wax or the bristles will curl. Work cooler wax through the bristles to eliminate the natural moisture.
  • To reheat a cold wax brush let it heat to the core, do not force it to bend or the inner bristles will break.
  • Never let it rest on the bottom of the wax pot. We rig up a piece of wire to let it rest on top and keep warm.
