Reactive MX Immersion Dyeing Wool or Silk
|

General Information...
Reactive MX will dye all natural fibers. It is a professional, permanent dye. Dyed fabric may be washed or dry cleaned.
Safety:
Use a disposable dust mask while handling powders. Use rubber gloves to protect your hands. Do not use dyeing utensils for food preparation. Keep dyes away from toddlers, pets and unsupervised children.

INGREDIENT CHART FOR 1 POUND (454 GR) OF FABRIC
|
|
1 to 8 tsp. (3 to 24 gr)
|
Reactive MX dye.. less for pale, more for dark
|
|
2 Tbs. (45 gr)
|
Non-iodized table or pickling salt
|
|
1 tsp. (5 gr)
|
Wool assist SBS
|
|
1 cup (250 ml)
|
white household vinegar
|
|
2 1/2 gal (9.5 L)
|
Soft water
|
|
|
|
Instructions For Dyeing Wool...
Fiber Preparation For Wool...
Soak wool in 1 cup (250 ml) of clear household ammonia per each 5 gallons (20 L) of water, rinse well. Remove excess water.
Supplies For Dyeing For Wool...
- Non iodized Salt...
Table or Pickling...To help the fiber absorb the dye prior to bonding.
- White Vinegar...Bonds the dye to the fiber.
- Wool Assist SBS...Minimizes skittering and promotes uniform dyeing.
- Plain Household Ammonia...not sudsy... for pre wash and rinse.
Wool Dyeing Procedure...
Step 1. Measure 2 cups (500 ml) of warm water. Use a little with the dye powder to make a paste, use the remainder to
dissolve the dye. Step 2. Measure the required amount of lukewarm water into a stainless steel or enamel container. Step 3. Add the dye, the required amount of salt and Wool Assist SBS, and stir until dissolved. Step 4.
Wet fiber if necessary, remove excess water, then put it into the dye bath. Step 5. Heat the dye bath slowly to a simmer. Stir frequently. Step 6. Add the required amount of white vinegar and continue to stir frequently for 45 minutes. Step 7.
Remove fiber and rinse well in lukewarm water, squeeze out excess. Step 8. Prepare a solution using 2 Tbs. (30 ml) of ammonia per gal (4 L)
of lukewarm water and rinse the fiber. Step 9. Rinse again in plain water. Step 10.
Do a final rinse in a solution of 4 Tbs. (60 ml) of white vinegar per gallon (4 L) of water. Step 12. Gently squeeze out the excess water and dry.

Instructions For Dyeing Silk...
Fiber Preparation For Silk...
Wash silk thoroughly with TNA Detergent in hot water. Rinse well. Increase and decrease water temperature gradually. Do not wring, roll in a towel to remove excess water.
Supplies For Dyeing Silk...
- Non iodized Salt...Table or Pickling...To help the fiber absorb the dye prior to bonding.
- White Vinegar...Bonds the dye to the fiber.
- TNA Detergent...To wash the fabric after dyeing.
Silk Dyeing Procedure...

Heat the dye bath slowly to a to a maximum 180º F (82º C). Stir frequently. Step 6.
Add the required amount of white vinegar and continue to stir frequently for 45 minutes. Step 7.
Remove fiber and rinse well in lukewarm water, squeeze out excess. Step 8. Rinse the fabric in cool running water until it runs clear. Then wash
in hot water using TNA Detergent, 1/2 tsp (2 ml) per gal (4 L) of water. Repeat the hot water wash until all excess dye is removed. Rinse, add 4 Tbs. (60 ml) of white household vinegar per sink of
water to the final rinse. Increase and decrease water temperature gradually. Do not wring, roll in a towel to blot moisture. Press dry on the wrong side using a medium hot iron.
