Tie Dye With Setacolor Transparent Fabric Paint

PRODUCT INFORMATION…

Setacolor fabric paints are made in France. They are available in Transparent, Opaque and Shimmer colours. It is the Setacolor Transparent Paints that are most dye like and allow the fabric to remain soft.

The paints are water based so brushes and other tools may simply be washed for clean up. Implements must be washed before the paint has dried or it is not removable.

FABRICS AND PREPARATION...

Setacolor may be used on all natural fabrics. A blend of at least 50% cotton and synthetic may also be used but the colours will be a little less vibrant and less resistant to washing. Use fabrics that have not been treated with surface finishes such as soil resistant as they prevent the paint from bonding to the fiber.

Fabrics should be pre washed to remove sizing.

Tie fabric with string or rubber bands in any of the traditional tie dye methods. Before or after tying dampen the fabric in water. Wring some water out if necessary, the fabric should just be damp to allow the colours to blend nicely.
 

PREPARING AND APPLYING THE COLOURS…

Reduce the colours with water to make a tie dye solution. Put the colours into spray bottles for the easiest application. Alternately the colours may be put into small buckets and the damp tied shirts may be immersed in the solution. If immersed the shirts will take longer to dry and should be left overnight.
 

FIXING THE COLOURS...

After the fabric is completely dry remove the bindings.
Fix the colours by ironing the reverse side for 5 minutes. Dry iron, cotton setting. Do not wash for 48 hours. The colours may also be fixed in an oven. Preheat the oven to 150ºC, 300ºF. Turn the oven off and put the fabric in for 5 minutes.

Wash article by hand or machine, water at or below 40ºC, 104ºF, or dry clean.
