Shibori Kit Instructions

Sibori Knot Tying Kit

Components...

  • A mounting bracket clamp
  • A needle threader shaft with a sharp pin at the end
  • A wooden dowel

Shibori Knot Tying Example

Assembly...

  • The mounting bracket attaches firmly to a table top.
  • The needle threader shaft slips into the slot below the tightening bolt, flat side to the table, pin side up.
  • The wooden dowel is wrapped with the tying thread. The dowel may then be pulled to make the knots as tight as possible.

Shibori Knotted Fabric

To Tie a Knot...

    1. Hook the fabric onto the needle, placing the mark directly over the needle. Pull down to put tension onto the fabric.

    2. With one hand hold the fabric and the end of the string, have the string running up to the needle.

    3. Hold the wooden dowel in the other hand and place it underneath the needle threader shaft.

    4. Next bring it over the needle threader shaft and drop it through the loop of string that was formed.

    5. Maneuver this loop around the fabric just below the point of the needle and pull the dowel to the right to tighten the knot.

    6. Repeat this knot again in the same place to reinforce. The more loops that are made, the wider the resisted ring will be.

    7. This knot will produce a tiny square like resisted area around a dyed center.

    8. To release the knots pull on the string.
